The design side of this extensive but enjoyable project was led by Treganna Design.
We were tasked by Creative Rural Communities to create a set of walking leaflets for 10 routes around the Vale of Glamorgan, and worked closely with Cazbah to oversee the project and write suitable copy. The routes were created by Valeways, but needed refreshing and the new leaflets required new copy, imagery, maps and styling. To start the project, Treganna Design created a brand style that would work across the whole set. We were required to work with a steering committee, and so a number of obligations had to be upheld for each part of the project.
To get a full understanding of each route, we walked each one, noting and plotting anything that required attention. Cazbah wrote new copy based on our walks, and each point of interest was photographed by us and incorporated into the bespoke leaflet design, so that walkers could easily reference where they were by using a combination of the map (which we created), the copy and imagery. The way the leaflet worked in practice was well thought out and the design took into account many external factors that could affect the ease of use for a walker when outside.
Specific route markers were created, aswell as large Interpretation boards that were placed along the coastline. We also created large tourism maps of the Vale of Glamorgan to highlight not only the routes but all areas of tourism on offer.
Backed by a big campaign for encouraging walking in the Vale (including bus sides and advertising that we designed) the leaflet packs have proven a huge success with walkers throughout the Vale and surrounding areas.
